Italian Program Update
Italian student Francesca Savarino is a senior studying neuroscience with a double minor in Italian and psychology. She is the recipient of the 2023 Chancellor’s Extraordinary Campus Leadership and Service Award. During her time at UT, she has served as Panhellenic President and an Italian peer mentor. She is a member of Chi Omega and Student Alumni Associates. After graduating, Francesca will be pursuing a career in medicine and will be applying to medical school. She is grateful for the ways the Italian Program has invested in her and prepared her for her future.
Italian Club
Italian Club Events for the past academic year include an International Festival, Italian Immersion Day, and the Italian Angel Tree. Italian Immersion Day was held in October 22 and engaged over 60 students in art, culinary, and athletic activities. The Italian Club was nominated for Best Large Student Organization Award in April 2023. The Italian Club hosted the Italian American Heritage Night on April 19, 2023. Students were invited to enjoy pizza, salad, and tiramisu while listening to the immigration stories of their Italian professors at UT.
Daniela Cambie and her Italian students experienced the Holodeck at the Language Resource Center in spring 2023. With the help of Doug Canfield and Shaun Washington from LRC, Chiara Mariani, and Peer Mentors Maggie Lyerla, Maggie Price, and Sarah Wissar, Daniela created a treasure hunt in Bologna using the holodeck at the LRC. It was a fun, immersive activity that the students loved. The Holodeck is an amazing tool that we have at UT and Daniela and her students plan to use it for more classes in the future.
