Drew Paul in ‘The Conversation’: “A Palestinian-Israeli film is an Oscars favorite − so why is it so hard to see?”
For many low-budget, independent films, an Oscar nomination is a golden ticket.
The publicity can translate into theatrical releases or rereleases, along with more on-demand rentals and sales.
However, for “No Other Land,” a Palestinian-Israeli film nominated for best documentary at the 2025 Academy Awards, this exposure is unlikely to translate into commercial success in the U.S. That’s because the film has been unable to find a company to distribute it in America.

We Were Here Film and Talk
Acclaimed Afro-Italian filmmaker Fred Kudjo Kuwornu will present his documentary We Were Here: The Untold History of Black Africans in Renaissance Europe at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 6, and engage in a question-and-answer session afterward in the Lindsay Young Auditorium of Hodges Library. The event provides an opportunity to engage with a significant yet underexplored aspect of history and visual culture.

Live Music Duo Jazzes Up Vintage Italian Drama

The journal accepts high-quality submissions of scholarly essays, book reviews, interviews, and translations, as well as short stories and poetry. We welcome entries written in English, French, German, or Spanish. Deadline for upcoming submissions: December 15, 2023.
