Millie Gimmel

Dr. Millie Gimmel received her bachelor’s degree (summa cum laude) from Murray State University in Spanish and English with a Certificate for Secondary Education. Her MA and PhD are from Indiana University. Dr. Gimmel specializes in colonial Latin America with an emphasis on natural history and the history of medicine in Mexico. Her research has appeared in he Journal of the History of Ideas, Hispania, Colonial Latin American Review, among other venues. Since arriving at the University of Tennessee in 2002, Dr. Gimmel has received an Alumni Association Outstanding Teacher Award, a College of Arts and Sciences Faculty Advising Service Award, the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Advising and a summer stipend from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
