Gregory Kaplan

Gregory B. Kaplan is Professor of Spanish and Distinguished Professor in the Humanities.

Dr. Kaplan’s principal area of research is medieval Spanish philology, which includes the literature of the Spanish Middle Ages as well as the history and evolution of the Spanish language.

Dr. Kaplan has been awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities fellowship, the University of Tennessee Jefferson Prize, a Lindsay Young Professorship, a Distinguished Professorship in the Humanities, a Tennessee Humanities Center Fellowship, a UT College of Arts and Sciences Advising Award, and a University of Tennessee National Alumni Association Outstanding Teacher Award.

Dr. Kaplan has published articles on a variety of medieval topics in scholarly journals such as Bulletin of Spanish Studies, La corónica, Foreign Language Annals, Hispanic Review, Hispanófila, Quaderni Ibero-Americani, and Revista de Estudios Hispánicos. He has also published articles dealing with 18th and 19th century Spanish literature and Spanish cinema.
