Drew Paul
Drew Paul received his B.A. from Emory University, and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Texas at Austin.
Dr. Paul’s scholarship focuses on borders, mobility, and migration in contemporary Arab culture. He has published numerous articles and book chapters in addition to two monographs. His first book, entitled Israel/Palestine: Border Representations in Literature and Film, was published in 2020 by Edinburgh University Press, and his forthcoming manuscript, Arrested Movement in the Middle East: Mobility and Political Dissent in Arab and Palestinian Culture will be published by IB Taurus/Bloomsbury in early 2026. He is currently working on projects on temporality in 21st century Palestinian culture, networks of film circulation and exhibition in the Middle East and North Africa, Palestinian documentary filmmaking, and the Palestine/Israel conflict in video games.
At UT, he teaches all levels of Arabic language as well as courses on the modern Middle East, such as Middle Eastern Film, Sci-Fi and Fantasy in the Middle East, and the Middle East in American Culture.
