Megumu Burress
Megumu (Meg) Burress is a Senior Lecturer of Japanese at the Department of World Languages & Cultures (WLC) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She found an interest in foreign language acquisition and study abroad when she began learning English in junior high school in Japan. She pursued her interests by traveling to the United States where she attended UT and completed her Master’s degrees in Foreign Language Education and in Educational Psychology. She later earned a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology and Research.
Meg’s teaching career began during her graduate studies. She received the Chancellor’s Extraordinary Graduate Teaching Award in 2013 and has been teaching Japanese at UT ever since. She has also been serving as the Director of the WLC Taped Language (Persian / Farsi) Program since 2022. Meg enjoys seeing students learn, grow, and engage in their life interests.
