About Korea
The Korean peninsula is located in East Asia, along with China, Japan, Mongolia, and Taiwan. The Korean peninsula has been divided into North Korea and South Korea since 1953 by the Korean Armistice Agreement of the Korean War. North and South Korea have developed their own unique cultures, governments, and economic systems, even though they have been repeatedly invaded by surrounding countries in East Asia. Due to its location, South Korea can be an economic and transportation hub, connecting East Asian countries to the rest of the world. According to the World Bank Group (Oct 06, 2023), South Korea has achieved remarkable success and rapid economic growth. “Korea’s gross national income (GNI) per capita increased rapidly from US$67 in the early 1950s to US$32,661 in 2022” (World Bank Group).
