Graduate Studies
In order to be considered for admission to a graduate program in World Languages and Cultures, all applicants must:
- Complete the Graduate School Application
- Pay the $60 application fee by credit card or electronic check
- Upload the following materials into the Graduate School Application:
- Unofficial transcripts of all prior Undergraduate and Graduate coursework and degree confirmations
- Two (2) Statements of Purpose (about 300 words; one in the target language and one in English)
- Two (2) Writing Samples (one in the target language and one in English)
- Three (3) Letters of Recommendation (at least two should be academic references)
NOTE: Do not submit transcripts by mail. This will delay the processing of your application.

Application deadlines for those applying for a GTAship are February 1 (for fall admission) and October 1 (for spring admission).
Non-Native English Speaking Applicant Requirements
Applicants whose native language is not English must:
- Submit official TOEFL scores directly from ETS to University of Tennessee (#1843)
OR - Submit official IELTS scores directly from IELTS administrator to Office of Graduate Admissions
