Careers With a World Language
Studying a language is beneficial to every career! Our students not only learn language skills to communicate with language speakers in the US and abroad but also the cultural competency knowledge of how culture and language are intertwined. Whether you major or minor in a language, the skills you learn in the classroom will take you further in any career path.

What You Can Do with a Language Major or Minor
Students who study the humanities in general develop critical thinking skills, reasoning and proficiency, gain appreciation for linguistic and artistic expression, and can connect their studies to any degree. In particular, the study of a modern language allows students to experience not only the grammar and vocabulary of a language but culture, literature, art, and history of its people.
A degree in one of the eleven languages offered by the department can benefit any career trajectory a student takes. The combination of language skills paired with critical thinking and creative expression will allow you to excel in any area. A language major or minor opens many doors, including to careers in health care, law, education, business, media, communications, and more. The ability to show proficiency in a language besides English is important on your resume and your future employer, so start learning now!
