Álvaro A. Ayo
Álvaro A. Ayo is a Professor of Spanish Peninsular Literature. His area of specialization is Eighteenth- and Nineteenth-century literature and culture. Dr. Ayo recently published his book Conquistando la leyenda negra: imperio, fraternidad universal y el individuo moderno en Pardo Bazán y Blasco Ibáñez (1898-1914) (Conquering the Black Legend: Empire, Universal Fraternity, and the Modern Individual in Pardo Bazán and Blasco Ibáñez (1898-1914)). He has also published articles and a book on Ramón Pérez de Ayala, and articles on Benito Pérez Galdós, Miguel de Unamuno, Joan Maragall, Gabriel Miró, Emilia Pardo Bazán, Vicente Blasco Ibáñez, and Fernando Pessoa. Currently, he is working on a book project tentatively titled “Global Imaginings: Visualizing the World and Humanity in Spanish Letters (1874-1914),” which deals with varied but interrelated topics like imperialism, humanitarianism, pacifism, and global citizenship as seen in works by authors like Juan Valera, Francisco Giner de los Ríos, Enric Prat de la Riba, Víctor Català (Caterina Albert), Armando Palacio Valdés, Rafael Altamira, Santiago Ramón y Cajal, and Concepción Arenal.
