Take the Chinese placement test
In addition to intensive language instruction in the classroom, we encourage students to engage in Chinese-related activities outside of class. For example, attend weekly Chinese Table at International House, practice ordering food in Chinese at a Chinese restaurant, create short video projects in Chinese, etc. The Chinese Culture Club hosts a variety of cultural events each semester, including game night, movie night, cooking demonstration and competition, Chinese singing contest, and so on.
LRC
We encourage you to also explore the Language Resources Center for streaming feeds from Netflix and Hulu, with an array of Chinese movies and documentaries. Come to the LRC on the Ground Floor of AMB for more details.
With the LRC’s Pandora account you can explore Chinese music. Listen to one of our presets, or drop the name of one of your favorite Chinese songs and let the Music Genome Project go. It will quickly scan its entire world of analyzed music to find songs. Then sit back and enjoy as it creates a listening experience full of current and soon-to-be favorite songs for you. Come to the LRC on the Ground Floor of AMB for more details.
The LRC has access to several Chinese media streams through the ROKU players in the VOLS and MGVR rooms. Come to the LRC on the Ground Floor of AMB for more details.
