Minor in Japanese
Minor in Japanese Studies
Students can earn a Japanese minor by completing the third-year Japanese language courses (JAPA 351 & 352 or equivalents), plus 12 hours of either language or content courses in English. If the requirement description for the Japanese minor in your catalogue year is different, Dr. Horiguchi, the chair of the Japanese Program (njh@utk.edu) will help you submit a petition to the UT administration.
The minor in Japanese consists of at least 18 hours of Japanese courses.
Pre-requisites
- JAPA 251 – Intermediate Japanese I (4 hours)
- JAPA 252 – Intermediate Japanese II (4 hours)

Complete 9 hours:
- JAPA 351 – Advanced Japanese I (3 hours)
- JAPA 352 – Advanced Japanese II (3 hours)
- JAPA 452 – Readings in Modern Japanese Texts (3 hours)
