Dan Wang

Dan Wang

Dan Wang is a distinguished lecturer in Chinese. Her primary research interests include second language (L2) acquisition, Language teaching methods, community-based learning, assessment and teacher development. Her research work has been published and presented in many prestigious conferences, such as Chinese Language Teacher Association annual meeting (CLTA), Mountain Interstate Foreign Language Conference and the annual convention of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). In 2017 she published a chapter in the edited volume Chinese as a Second Language Assessment (Springer, 2017).

She joined University of Tennessee in 2015. Before coming to UT, she had worked at Duke University for 8 years. She has taught Chinese language courses at various level, three summer sessions of Duke in China, and developed an online Mandarin course.  At UT, she has been teaching and coordinating elementary and intermediate Chinese courses (Chn131&132, Chn231&232). In summer of 2016 she served as lead teacher of the UT CI summer camp in Nanjing, and in 2018 she received WLC’s Excellence in Teaching Award. She was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2016 and to Distinguished Lecturer in 2019. Dan Wang has served as Faculty Advisor of the Chinese Culture Club since2016, she has presided over one of the most active student clubs on campus, with a host of events sponsored by WLC, the Center of International Education, and Asian Studies. Some of the extremely popular activities she has designed and led are Cross-Cultural Conversation, career information session, annual Chinese Karaoke Contest, WLC Soccer Tournament Chinese Team, WLC Talent Show Chinese Team, Chinese Checkers Tournament and UT International Fest. She also organized a Chinese Culture event at McClung Museum. From 2017 to 2019 Ms. Wang had served as Vice-President of WLC NTTF Association. In terms of outreach conducted since 2016, She has participated in recruitment at Farragut High School, presented on Chinese culture at the L&N Stem Academy, led UT students in visits to King’s Academy, Knoxville, and hosted Stem Academy students in her Chinese classes at UT.
