Mia Romano
Mia Romano, a native of California, joined UTK in 2016 and is now a Teaching Professor of Spanish and is the Assistant Director of Undergraduate Studies for the department. In Spring 2021, she won a WLC Award for Lecturer Teaching Excellence. She teaches primarily 100-level Spanish and is also the Course Manager for Spanish 123 and 150. She received her Master’s in 2008 in Spanish from New York University in Madrid, and then received her PhD from Rutgers University in 2015, entitled “Excessive Femininity as Resistance in 20th and 21st Century Mexican Narrative and Visual Art”. Mia has taught Spanish grammar, conversation, composition, and literature since 2008. She lived in Spain for a year and a half, and she enjoys cooking and traveling in her free time.
