Data Collection &
Analysis Support
The Language Resource Center (LRC) supports faculty and student researchers in the Department of World Languages & Cultures by providing comprehensive resources and consultation for data collection, analysis, and management.
Research Design & Data Collection
The LRC offers expert guidance and hands-on support for designing and implementing data collection methods tailored to language and culture research. We provide access to:
- Field recording equipment (audio/video)
- Screen-capture software and hardware
- Open-source survey and annotation tools
These tools are available for use on-site or for checkout by WLC-affiliated researchers.
Data Analysis Technologies
In conjunction with OIT Research Support, we help researchers leverage robust analytical tools across qualitative and quantitative domains:
- Qualitative Software: Atlas.ti, GailBot, NVivo, QDA Miner, Transana
- Quantitative Tools: Excel, R, SPSS
- Multimedia Editing & Transcription: Digital audio/video software, transcription foot pedals, headsets, and annotation tools
These software packages are available as downloads or via the Apps@UT virtual framework. We also offer training sessions and one-on-one consultations to help you get started or deepen your skills.
Secure Data Storage & Management
The LRC and OIT ensure your research data is collected and stored securely in compliance with university policies. We can assist with:
- IRB-compliant data workflows
- Secure drives and storage plans
- Collaborative research environments (e.g., Microsoft Teams, OneDrive for Research)
Student Support Through Grants
Undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to apply for Goldman/Pendleton LRC Grants, which provide financial support for projects that involve language-based research or technology integration. These grants can help offset costs related to:
- Software licensing
- Equipment usage
- Travel for field data collection
- Transcription and translation services
